Applying new grip tape to my skateboard?

I got a skateboard from my friend a couple of weeks ago, and the griptape was ripped up and peeling off, so i got a new sheet today. Im pretty sure i know how to put it on, but doesent there have to be holes over the truck screws? do i poke the holes before putting the grip tape on?

Pull off the old grip tape. Remove ALL glue residue and dirt. Use rubbing alcohol if you have too.

Lay the sheet. Start in the middle of the board and press down towards either end. Press around the truck screws enough to show where they are at. Cut around them, remove the pieces. Finish pressing down around screws.
