Skateboard Deck Sizing Chart
What's a good length skateboard deck for city cruising?
I'm recently in the market for a Skateboard deck and am trying to decide which size to get. I'm a beginner and am looking for affordable yet dependable oldskool style deck. Right now on ebay there is a board for like $8 dollars and its 8-1/8" x 29-1/2" Old School Shape. The width is fine to me but the length goes against about.com's chart which says someone of my height (6'1") should have a board at a length of 32" and up. There's another board with specs of 10" X 33" but costs more and will be a little unwieldy when trying to hop on the subway.
So to all my experienced boarders, do you think a 8-1/8 x 29" length board would suffice as a cruiser for a man of 6'1" with size 12 feet?
I HAVE LESS THAN TWO DAYS TO MAKE A BID. PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
Deck size is ALL personal preferance when it comes to skateboarding. 29" is a normal length for an old school deck, I'm sure that about.com isn't using an old school design being the new style decks are all in the 31-32 length now a days. What you really want to look into is the type and size of wheels you'll want. If all you're doing is for skating from a to b then you'll want some bigger wheels. 55mm and up. Softer wheels (80a-95a) will soak up almost any terrain and harder wheels will roll faster but not as much grip. Any sakteboard can be a cruiser, that's what they were invented for and they were much much smaller back in the day.
