Are nike sb's good for skating? Or just style?

I own several pair of sb's but I don't skate. I wear them for the style and I like them better then AF1's.

Now I want to try out skateboarding so my friend is teaching me the basics and I'm planning on buying a board.

So are nike sb's actually good for skateboarding?

And if you want to share good skateboard part brands go ahead too (decks, hardware, trucks etc)
