Is Canadian Maple a good choice for a Skateboard Deck?

I am trying to help put together an event and I want to offer skate decks to kids to design themselves. I keep finding blank decks that say they are made of Canadian Maple that are cheap, but I also want to buy quality functional decks.

If Canadian Maple is not the best, what kind of wood do you recommend?

90% of the skateboards in the world are made from canadian maple. It's the best choice, best quality, and easiest to shape thats why it's used. Those decks are cheap beacause they are "blanks" meaning they have no graphics, mostly the cost of the skateboard is because it's got the brand name on it and some graphic on it but if you don't have that then they become a lot cheaper. You have a good idea for the kids hope you stick with it.
